Taste of Germany comes to Lawton

LAWTON, Okla._Break out your lederhosen and get ready for the 42nd annual Oktoberfest at the Great Plains Coliseum this weekend.

7News got a sneak peak at the venue as they prepare to host more than 3,000 patrons. There's going to be a live polka band, dancing, a bounce house for the kids and of course German food.

"If you had to pick a dish, go with the bratwurst, German potato salad and sauerkraut. You can top it with a curry sauce or German mustard, but that is the favorite hands down," said Ellen Fisher, catering manager.

Fisher says all of the meats were shipped from Germany. If you are in it for the food and don’t have the time to stick around, you can order your meal to go.

The event kicks off Friday at 5:00 p.m. and runs until 11:00 p.m. The festivities pick up again on Saturday from noon until 11:00 p.m.

Admission is $3, but children 12 and under are free.
