Texas & Oklahoma Reps named as possible US Speaker Candidates

WASHINGTON, D.C._Some familiar names to Texoma have been mentioned as possible candidates for U.S. Speaker of the House. That's after Congressman Kevin McCarthy's withdrawal from the race. Oklahoma's U.S. Representative Tom Cole and Texas' U.S. Representative Mac Thornberry are named in The Washington Post and Politico on Thursday as possible candidates for U.S. Speaker.

Republicans are still left wondering who will be Speaker saying that no one saw this coming. Candidates Daniel Webster and Jason Chaffetz are still in the running. Some are pushing former GOP Vice President candidate Paul Ryan to run, but he still says he will not.

In an interview with the Oklahoman ten years ago, when Representative Cole was ask about running for Speaker, he laughed and said to never rule out anything. Representative Tom Cole has not issued a statement about McCarthy's withdrawal or the fact that people are talking about him running. Representative Mac Thornberry's spokesperson says he is not interested in being speaker.
