Basketball tournament supports Armed Services YMCA

LAWTON, Okla._Basketball players of all ages competed against each other Saturday at the Church at Fort Sill 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

The church partnered with Connect Ministries, which is headquartered in Georgia, to put on the festivities.

There were bounce houses, slides, a rock wall, about 10 basketball courts and even an appearance from the Oklahoma City Thunder mascot, Rumble.

Campus pastor Rob Havens said this is also a great way for the church to support the Armed Services YMCA of Lawton-Fort Sill, and that it could help Lawton reclaim its historic basketball past.

"Lawton is a basketball town. We wanted to create that culture again and get 3-on-3 basketball back in Lawton. I think it's a huge opportunity for the community to connect," Havens said.

Havens said they have been planning this event for the better part of a year, and they hope this year can be a good stepping stone for a bigger, better next year.
