LAWTON, Okla._Preparations for Lawton's Holiday in the Park are underway. More than 150 volunteers got together Saturday morning, over 100 of which were from Lawton High School's JROTC, to continue lighting and decorating Elmer Thomas Park.
The fun continued into the afternoon, with a fund raising event that included, live music, Indian tacos, pumpkin carving, and movie in the park.
A portion of Saturday's vendor sales were donated to the Holiday in the Park fund, and Vice Chairman John Beemer said the success of this year's event relies on the community's support.
"To put holiday in the park and light the park on the map, we really need donations, and sponsorships. This takes money to do and we really want to expand this, and we want to rival Chickasha, and Ardmore, and really bring something to Oklahoma and southwest Oklahoma," Beemer said.
