Oklahoma GOP has new leader

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla._The Oklahoma Republican Party has a new leader this morning. Pam Pollard has been elected head of the State GOP over two challengers. Pollard said at the state committee meeting that she is the right leader at the right time for the Oklahoma Republican Party. She will serve out the rest of the GOP chairman term until 2017.

Pollard previously served as the head of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women and was a part of Mary Fallin's campaign for governor. Pollard says she plans to unite Republicans across the state and to organize active parties in all 77 Oklahoma counties.

This vote comes after the former leader Randy Brogden made controversial comments on social media about welfare recipients. The post compares food stamp recipients to animals in national parks. Pollard says those comments were unfortunate and not something the Oklahoma Republican Party stands by.

As we are right in the middle the 2016 Presidential election, Pollard say she hopes to attract more Republican candidates to the state in an effort to generate excitement in the party on the state level.
