LAWTON, Okla._The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed Tuesday that a weapon was recovered in Monday's officer-involved shooting.
It happened just before 5:00 p.m. when police responded to calls of a man walking along Southwest Lee Boulevard and waving a handgun. An officer shot the man after a brief encounter. A witness told 7News that she saw the man reaching in his pocket just before the officer opened fire. The man's identity still has not been released.
OSBI says his last known address was in Lawton and he had a lengthy criminal record, some of which happened in Texas, so they are expanding the search for his family. They are also still interviewing witnesses. Those findings will be presented to the district attorney. The officer who shot the man will remain on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
