Lawton named STEM Community

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla._Lawton has been officially recognized as an Oklahoma STEM Community.

Governor Mary Fallin welcomed business leaders, educators and community partners from Lawton during Tuesday's third annual STEM Summit. Lawton was named a STEM Community because of their commitment to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

"Eisenhower High School really started the STEM revolution in the state of Oklahoma," Superintendent Dr. Tom Deighan said at a school board meeting on October 12.

The STEM Summit's focus was on the vital role that communities play in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Participants had the opportunity to attend sessions and visit with district, business and industry leaders.

The STEM movement continues to grow in Lawton with help from multiple city organizations and local community partners.
