Man shot, killed by police identified

LAWTON, Okla._The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has identified the man who was shot and killed by a Lawton officer after he reportedly waved a gun at drivers.

Jessica Brown, OSBI's public information officer, identified the man as 40-year-old Jason Day. The Medical Examiner's Office says Day was shot several times in the chest.

Police were called to the area of Southwest Lee Boulevard and Sheridan Road shortly before 5:00 p.m. Monday after multiple people called them saying a man was walking along the road and waving a gun at them. Shots were fired after a brief encounter between police and Day.

Day was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave and has not been identified.

OSBI will continue to investigate.
