Corum VFD says 'thank you' with free chili dinner

CORUM, Okla._The Corum Volunteer Fire Department is giving back to the community with a chili dinner.

The department is made up of 15 volunteer firefighters who rely on donations and support from the community to operate. Chief Kevin Lindesmith says it's the department's turn to show their appreciation to the people with a free chili dinner. The department will also show off two new brush pumpers and some of the department's new gear.

"We ask this community and surrounding communities for support all year long and they've always been great to support us and give what we need. We want to give something back, let them we know we appreciate them and need their support," Chief Lindesmith said.

The chili dinner is free for the community. It will last from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Corum Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, October 17.

An Oklahoma Forestry Services task force is joining the fight against a wildfire in Kiowa County. It's burning about 17 miles southwest of Quartz Mountain State Park. They're calling it the "Flat Top" fire. The last update shows the fire has consumed about 70 acres. The O.F.S. says the biggest problem is that fire is burning in rough terrain. Local fire departments, including Blair and Martha are among those fighting it.
