No. 1 MacArthur takes down No. 2 Ardmore in thriller 29-28

No. 1 MacArthur rallied in the final minute to win a 29-28 thriller over No. 2 Ardmore Friday night. Down 28-21 late in the 4th quarter, JR Winningham hooked up with Jarviar Christon on a 35-yard touchdown pass. The Highlanders then rolled the dice and went for two and the lead. Walter Neil took the direct snap and crossed the goal line to put the Highlanders in front for good.

In the first quarter, the Highlanders drew first blood in crazy fashion as Ronny Kimble ran back a botched field goal by Ardmore for a touchdown. However, Ardmore had control for most of the first half as quarterback Clay Atwood would score on a pair of touchdown runs to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.

MacArthur stepped it up a notch in the 3rd quarter, scoring twice to take a 21-14 lead. But the Tigers answered with 14 straight points of their own and held a 28-21 for most of the 4th quarter. Ardmore had a chance to put the game away, but the Mac defense stuffed the Tigers on 4th and 1 with less than two minutes to play.

The Highlanders improve to 7-0, 4-0 in district 5A-1.
