LPD and LFD swinging for charity

LAWTON, Okla._Lawton police and firefighters went head-to-head Saturday afternoon in charity softball game.

The departments usually play an annual basketball game which the fire department has dominated, and even with a change of sport, this year's score didn't seem to swing in the police department's favor.

However, both teams agree the real winner is the non-profit organizations they are playing for, and say the win or lose it's all in good fun.

"Typically when these two entities get together, sometimes there's bad things going on and this is a good opportunity for them to come together, enjoy themselves, have friendly competition and get to know each other on a different basis," said Will Hines, Deputy Chief, Lawton Police Department.

All the proceeds from the event were split between the two departments.

The police department plans donate their share to the Officer Down Memorial while the fire department will donate to Operation Warm.
