Soldiers give elementary school playground fresh look

LAWTON, Okla._Several soldiers from Fort Sill took to the community Monday by volunteering at Ridgecrest Elementary School.

This was all part of an ongoing partnership between Fort Sill and local elementary schools. Lieutenant Colonel Justin Mufalli says the battalion asked the school's principal what the school needed and they started Monday by fixing up the playground with a new coat of paint. Lieutenant Colonel Mufalli says it is important for the group to get out and help the community.

"It’s our community. I have soldiers that have children that come to this school, and not just Ridgecrest, but throughout the whole Lawton area. Many of our sister battalions have other partnerships with other schools in our community," Lt. Col. Mufalli said.

This was the first event for the battalion, but they plan on participating in the school's fall festival in November as well as in events for the Christmas season and Veterans Day.
