Driver charged with DUI following violent summer collision

LAWTON, Okla._ A Comanche County driver, accused of causing a violent collision over the summer, was charged with DUI that resulted in great bodily injury and reckless driving.

In August, police say Robny Arteaga-Poppe was traveling at 119 mph on Northwest Flower Mound Road, just seconds before his BMW slammed into a pickup waiting at a stop sign at the Cache Road intersection. The truck's driver suffered a shattered pelvis. One of his passengers, a child, was flown to OU Medical Center with a ruptured spleen and kidney. A second passenger was also seriously injured.

Police say at the time of impact, Arteaga was doing 85 mph and pushed the pickup into a second truck. Arteaga tested well over the legal alcohol limit while driving.
