City takes bulk trash at fall clean-up

LAWTON, Okla._For the first time, the City of Lawton allowed residents to drop off their bulk items instead of providing curbside pickup for it's annual fall clean-up.

Lawton residents could drop off any items that don’t fit in their 95-gallon garbage can at the  McMahon Auditorium parking lot between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The items include things such as: furniture, appliances, recyclables, tree branches under five feet in length and other bulky items. According to the City of Lawton, they offered a fall clean-up drop-off event because of the current shortage of sanitation workers and last spring’s weather.

“We weren't able to have Earth Day because of the weather, prolonged weather, we tried to reschedule because we didn't get to do this. We wanted to do something for the citizens of Lawton," explained Jason Mansel, superintendent of the Solid Waste Division.

The fall clean-up drop off continues Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the parking lot of McMahon Auditorium.

While they accept a lot of different items, they will not accept paint or household chemicals.
