Community stays #StillwaterStrong after homecoming crash

STILLWATER, Okla._The Stillwater community is coming together to remember the victims of the crash at the Oklahoma State University's homecoming parade.

Three adults and a 2-year-old boy died, and dozens were hurt. The phrase "Stillwater Strong" has been popping up after the deadly crash. A candlelight vigil held Sunday night definitely showed how strong the community is. A university pastor with the vigil says people wanted to come together to pray, and also to make sense of the tragedy. One of those who died in that crash was a retired OSU Professor Marvin Stone. A long-time friend and colleague, Paul Weckler, says he is still in disbelief.

“For decades they ate lunch together in our lunch room is our department up in Ag Hall,” said Weckler.

Family and friends of the victims, and even complete strangers, came by the makeshift memorial at the corner of Main and Hall of Fame. Some place stuffed animals and flowers at the exact place where the crash happened.

The visitors say they cannot believe something like this happened at an event meant for celebration. Some say they feel all they can do is pray.
