Oklahoma prison escapee captured outside local church

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An inmate who escaped from the Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown is back in custody.

Department of Corrections spokesman Alex Gerszewski (ger-SHESS-kee) says 31-year-old Joshua Holt was captured Tuesday outside the First Baptist Church in Stringtown.

Holt was being housed at the prison's minimum-security unit when prison officials noticed he was missing during a 2 p.m. inmate count on Saturday. Gerszewski says there is no fence around that portion of the prison and that Holt apparently just walked away.

Gerszewski says Holt was being checked out at the prison's medical facility for some minor injuries before officials planned to transfer him to a higher-security prison.

Prison records show Holt was convicted in Stephens County for second-degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property.
