32 high school bands compete at Cameron University

LAWTON, Okla._The West Region OSSAA Band Competition had perfect weather at Cameron University.

Thirty-two bands from class 5A and 6A schools marched at Cameron Stadium. The bands are scored individually, receiving marks 1 through 5, with 1 being a superior performance. This event is the culmination of months of practicing for these marching band and color guard members.

MacArthur band director and contest manager Larry Hatch says there are no do-overs in marching band. You just have to keep on playing and marching until the end of the set.

"The band does not get to start over and punt, or call a time out. You have to go on with what you are doing for your eight-minute show and whatever happens, happens. You keep going until the end and see what the result is," Hatch explained.

The event marks the end of the contest season for the marching bands. The East Region OSSAA Marching Band Competition will take place Wednesday at Broken Arrow High School.
