LAWTON, Okla._An investigation into a complaint about a vicious dog quickly turned into a car chase.

Police were called out to the 2300 block of Northwest 47th Street on complaints of a vicious dog. While they searched the area for the dog, police saw a person jump into a car and quickly take off. As the vehicle took off, police say it appeared that the driver jerked the steering wheel and then accelerated to about 35 mph in the neighborhood before taking a sharp left turn onto Northwest Lindy Avenue.

Police began to chase after the vehicle, which they believe reached speeds of at least 45 mph and never stopping for the officers. The chase continued through the neighborhood and parts of Rogers Lane before police lost track of the car.

Nearly an hour after the chase started, police found two men walking through a nearby field and stopped them. One of the men, Derrick Klinekole, was arrested on warrants out of Caddo County. The other man, 19-year-old Zachariah Smith, was the driver of the car of the chase.

Smith agreed to take a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, which he failed. Police had Smith use a Portable Breath Test and he blew a .10.

Smith was booked into the Lawton City Jail for careless driving, eluding police by motor vehicle, DUI under the age of 21, driving without a license and for not having vehicle insurance.
