New gun laws take effect

OKLAHOMA CITY_Misdemeanor drug convictions are no longer a permanent barrier for Oklahoman residents wanting to legally carry a gun.

Historically, misdemeanor convictions relating to illegal drug use or possession, including possession of drug paraphernalia, permanently took away a person's right to a gun license.

But, starting Sunday, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation will be able to issue licenses to those with prior misdemeanor drug convictions so long as the sentence was completed more than 10 years ago.

In addition, applicants wanting to pay their processing fee with a nationally recognized credit card or through electronic funds transfer must use the OSBI’s online application portal.

Janice Beach Hardwick, the Altus assistant girls basketball coach died Saturday surrounded by family and friends. Altus Public Schools She began coaching in 1974 in Texas and for the past 7 years, she's been teaching and coaching at Altus. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Altus.
