Cameron University announces Class of 2016 for Athletic Hall of Fame

In 2008, Cameron University began recognizing some of the greatest people associated with CU athletics by establishing an athletic hall of fame. Since then 51 names have been added to the illustrious club. Tuesday six more names were added to the list, becoming forever cemented in Aggie athletic history.

Joel Dering held the position of Athletic Trainer for 19 years from 1985-2005. He assisted with numerous Aggie Lone Star Conference championships as well as the NAIA National Championship Football Team in 1987.

Diana Carr played tennis for Cameron from 1979-1982. At Cameron, she ranked number one in singles and second in doubles with Leah Massey Cason.

Lora Spencer played volleyball for cu from 1997-2000. She remains the all-time kills leader with 1,644.

Megan Smith played volleyball for CU from 1999-2002. She was an NCAA Regional Qualfiyer in 2001 and currently holds the individual record for assists per game with 10.33.

Keith Lavender played football at Cameron in 1964 and 1965 and then coached football for the Aggies from 1968-1981. As a coach, he helped CU to a victory in the 1970 Boot Hill Bowl.

Charles Washington played defensive back for Cameron football from 1985-1988. On their way to the 1987 NAIA national title, Washington hauled in 4 picks and recorded 60 tackles as part of CU's third ranked defense in the country.

The induction ceremony will take place February 19th.
