Elgin honors veterans with ceremony

ELGIN, Okla._Veterans Day is Wednesday, but the community of Elgin came together Tuesday at Osborne Park to celebrate those who have served our country.

Students from Elgin High were bussed from school to watch the ceremony. Retirees of all branches were there, along with a group representing the Buffalo Soldiers. The event kicked off with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a few words from State Representative Scooter Park. Master of ceremonies David Finch said this is the fifth year for this event, and he hopes the tradition will continue.

"Our veterans are remembered for the sacrifices we went through. A lot of folks before me who sacrificed a lot, maybe with their lives, maybe just giving time and effort in the wars or to the defense of our nation," Finch said.

Finch says they hold the ceremony every year the day before Veterans Day so the students are able to attend. He believes it's important to teach our youth to honor those who served.
