Electricity restored to Lawton area

LAWTON, Okla._ More than 1,400 customers were without power for a few hours Wednesday after the wind knocked out service.

Tim Hushbeck, the community affairs manager for AEP/PSO in the Lawton area, says the wind knocked out power to 1,424 customers in Comanche County at the height of the outage. Winds were gusting to around 36 mph and there were reports of at least one piece of metal touching a power line and roof, causing it to spark, when parts of Lawton lost electricity.

Electricity was cut to the east side of Lawton shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. KSWO's electricity was restored at 12:20 p.m. and the total number of customers without power fell to 1,219 by 12:38 p.m. That number that dropped to 555 customers without power by 1:15 p.m. as PSO continued to restore electricity.

By 2:00 p.m., electricity was restored to everyone in the Lawton area.
