Veterans honored during ceremony at Cameron University

LAWTON, Okla._Cameron University held their annual Veterans Day ceremony with active and retired members of each branch in attendance.

The ceremony opened up with the presentation of the colors, then a welcome by Cameron University president John McArthur. During the ceremony, a moment of silence took place for the lives lost in past wars followed by a roll call of the 27 names of soldiers killed in battle since the last Veterans Day.

Fort Sill Commanding General, Major General John Rossi was the guest speaker at the event and shared a few words on what Veterans Day means.

"On this day we will recognize the veterans of all of our nation's wars. World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Granada, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan all share the same blood and the same sacrifice. Today is their day, shared with our pre-armistice fore fathers," Maj. Gen. Rossi said during his speech.

Major General Rossi went on to thank the community for their involvement in supporting the military and for making Lawton such a wonderful home that soldiers choose to retire at Fort Sill.

The university also fed retired and active duty service members lunch before Wednesday's ceremony and placed 6,750 flags last week.
