Fort Sill honors Family of the Year

FORT SILL, Okla._A Fort Sill family was honored Thursday as the post’s 2015 Family of the Year.

The Pyles family was chosen from 26 nominees, and were announced as this year's winner during a ceremony at Fort Sill's Patriot Club. Since the family of 6 arrived in 2010, they've participated in a number of events that benefit the Lawton-Fort Sill community. The family's two oldest children were named 'Youth of the Year' for two consecutive years. The family says they are grateful and shocked to receive such an honor.

"We just want to thank the local community on Fort Sill for the support that they have given us, as well for our time here. It's greatly appreciated," said award recipient Immeka Pyles.

"It's just very honorable to have my family nominated for such a prestigious award, and it's not only going to bring honor upon us but upon our distant family. It shows that the great name of Pyles is out there," said Immeka’s son, Richard.

Immeka Pyles accepted the award on her family's behalf. Her husband, Master Sergeant Richard Pyles, is currently deployed. His family says he will be excited to learn Thursday night’s news.
