No. 1 MacArthur started the 5A playoffs with a win over Carl Albert for the second year in a row. Unlike last year's 44-42 thriller, there was no late-game drama in the rematch. The Highlanders held a double-digit lead for most of the night before settling for a 42-28 victory.
The teams traded scores in the opening minutes. MacArthur found the scoreboard first when J.R. Winningham spotted Marcus Taylor in the back of the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown. Carl Albert answered on its first possession as Braxton Dickerson threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Mike Mitchell on 4th and Goal. But then Teddy Thomas put the Highlanders in front for good with a 1-yard run on their second possession.
The Titans would turn the ball over on consecutive possessions. The second, a Jarviear Christon interception, led to MacArthur's 3rd score of the night as Christon hauled in a Winningham pass and raced the rest of the way for a 96-yard touchdown.
