LAWTON, Okla._A heartbreaking story of a Lawton woman who had something that reminded her of her veteran son who recently passed away, stolen right off of her driveway.
Luciana Bennet's realized her rain barrel, decorated by her daughter, had been taken this weekend. The Lawton police officer who responded to Luciana's 911 call posted a picture of it to Facebook along with a caption asking the people of Lawton to keep an eye out for it, and it has been shared more than 600 times.
Bennet said in the last year of her son's life he would come over and shower her with compliments about how beautiful the barrel was painted. She says it gave her so much pride. Now that it is gone that empty spot in her driveway makes the loss of her son more difficult to bear.
"It was beautiful," said Bennet. "It means to me so much. Because now with my son gone it all I got. It's like they have stolen something from my heart."
Bennet takes pride in her front lawn that she has been taking care of for 50 years with her husband who is a Vietnam veteran. She has extra pride in winning awards for yard of the year. In addition to the plants and statues was this rain barrel, which her daughter made to help her collect water for her plants. But that changed one morning last weekend.
Luciana came out to her driveway Saturday morning to take her trash out when she noticed her rain barrel was gone.
Luciana just wants to know why it was stolen, but more importantly she just wants it back.
"I don't know what they will do with the barrel," said Bennet. "I don't know if they are going to sell it, or what they are going to do. It don't mean nothing to them, but it means a lot to me... A lot."
