Texas man holds homeowner captive overnight, claims he's "fighting the devil"

WICHITA FALLS, Texas_Police in Wichita Falls, Texas, arrested a man that claimed he was “fighting the devil” after breaking into a home and keeping the homeowner captive overnight.

Police were called to a home on the 1900 block of 11th Street at 8:39 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a criminal trespassing. Once they arrived, the homeowner told them 40-year-old Roger Evartt came into his home around 10:00 p.m. Monday and threatened to kill him with a knife.

The homeowner told police Evartt continued to display the knife throughout the night and threatened to harm him if he moved. He also said Evartt claimed to have guns, which scared him even more.

He said once the sun rose, Evartt made him carry items from the home at knifepoint. Once in the backyard, he said Evartt began throwing knives and yelling he was “fighting the devil.” The homeowner was able to get away from Evartt at this point and call police.

Evartt was arrested and taken to the Wichita County Jail on complaints of aggravated robbery, burglary of a habitation and possession of a dangerous drug.
