Fire damages Lawton home

LAWTON, Okla._ Some people were forced from their home in Lawton after a late night fire Thursday. 

It happened in the 1100 block of Northwest Maple Avenue. Firefighters say it appears it started in the home's water heater. They add everyone inside at the time was able to make it out safely. According to firefighters at the scene, the damage was contained to the rear of the home.

    According to a report released by the Oklahoma State Department of Health, the number of Oklahomans who died due to the flu this flu season has risen to 84. The increase of 16 deaths in the latest report occurred at the end of January to the beginning of February for the most part. The delayed reporting is due to late reports received by state concerning flu-related deaths. According to officials, none of those deaths had a positive flu test during the past week.

    Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett says he does not believe in the label of sanctuary cities. “Certainly, don't think it's being exercised in any broadly different way from one city to another.  That definition remains out of reach.  The practicality of delivering safe streets and neighborhoods remains."
