Town officials respond to Ryan audit

RYAN, Okla._After a state audit revealed thousands of dollars missing from a local town's funds, city officials are now giving their reaction.

A statement provided by the Town of Ryan Clerk's Office says:

"We are letting the state handle the situation and are moving forward. We've taken all the recommendations and are trying to get things back in order as we have for the past several months."

The audit says former Treasurer Kathy Laskowski admitted to taking between $3,000 and $4,000 per month from customers' utility payments over a two-year period. It also says she purchased insurance for her husband without approval, costing the town about $12,000.

Laskowski is also accused of using Ryan's credit cards to pay for thousands of dollars worth of goods and equipment still unaccounted for.

The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office has declined to comment on the situation because of the ongoing investigation.
