Forecasters issue ice storm warning for western Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - An ice storm warning is in effect for western Oklahoma as a slow-moving storm system is expected to bring wintry precipitation to much of the state.

The National Weather Service says the ice storm warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday to noon Saturday. Forecasters say rain is expected to change over to freezing rain and sleet late Thursday in northwest Oklahoma. On Friday, the wintry weather should spread southeast throughout the state.

Forecasters say northwest Oklahoma could see ¼ inch of ice, while parts of southwest Oklahoma could see more than a half inch. The forecast also calls for windy weather, which increases the risk of power outages.

Forecasters say eastern Oklahoma could see heavy rainfall, which carries the risk of flooding throughout the holiday weekend.
