LAWTON, Okla._Some shoppers spent time on Black Friday picking out which local angels they will be buying presents for this Christmas.
The Lawton Salvation Army kicked off their Angel Tree program Friday morning at Central Mall. The tree was decorated with ornaments showing each of the 750 local children in need, along with their top three toy choices, clothes and shoes sizes. Each adopted child will get two toys and a new outfit by December 18.
Salvation Army Captain Claudia Roseno says the program not only helps the children, but also their families during the holiday season.
"The community will provide that wonderful gift and then the parent doesn't have to make the decision 'do I give my child a gift or do I pay my electric bill.' So, the community can help and be that gap for that family," Capt. Roseno explained.
