Judge sides with fathers, claims DHS overcharged

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla._The State of Oklahoma could owe millions of dollars for overcharging fathers on child support.

A judge sided with four men who sued the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in 2011. The men claimed they were wrongfully charged 10 percent interest rather than a fluctuating rate determined by the prime rate set by banks. The judge ruled in favor of the men saying for years, DHS has charged fathers in paternity cases too much in interest for back child support judgments.

If the decision is upheld, more than 26,000 men could be due refunds.
