Lawton Police host community Christmas tree event

LAWTON, Okla._A crowd of students from the three city high schools filled the lobby of the Lawton Police Department for the first Community Christmas Tree event Monday.

More than 100 students were invited to help officers trim the department's Christmas tree while enjoying hot chocolate, homemade cookies, and Christmas music.

"We asked them to personalize an ornament to bring in and place on the tree, anyway they want, a lot of them from what I’ve seen have represented their schools which is totally awesome, we've got lot of ornaments it's looking fantastic,” said Lawton Police Sergeant Stephanie Crawford.

The tree is on display in the department's lobby.

Officers from the community oriented policing division hope to make Monday's event an annual tradition.
