LAWTON, Okla._A Lawton mother, charged with second-degree manslaughter in her daughter's death, has taken a plea deal.
Kayla Sawyer took a plea deal Tuesday and was sentenced to four years in prison, two to serve and two suspended. She will get credit for time served.
Kayla and Alexander Sawyer turned themselves in to the Lawton Police Department on January 21, 2015, after a warrant was issued for their arrest a day earlier. Sawyer's 1-month-old daughter died September 2014 after she reportedly rolled off a mattress and was wedged between the mattress and the wall. The child was sharing the bed with four others at the time. Kayla and Alexander Sawyer were in another bed at the time.
Investigators say the home's floors and the baby's crib were filled feces, and dead bugs sat at the bottom of a half-way full bathtub.
