Man charged with attempting to injure young son

COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla._A Texas man was charged Wednesday with choking his 7-year-old son and trying to push him into traffic.

John Barton of Denton, Texas, was arrested Friday in Geronimo after witnesses called for help when they believed the boy was in danger. One of the men who stopped to help said Barton told him the boy “had the devil in him.”  He said Barton then dragged the boy into the street and into the path of a truck that narrowly avoided hitting them.

Police arrested Barton at the scene. They saw marks on the child's neck where the boy said Barton had tried to choke him.

Barton is currently in the Comanche County Detention Center on charges of domestic assault and battery.
