Lawton Police Department helps Salvation Army

LAWTON, Okla._The Lawton Police Department traded in their badges and guns Saturday to raise money for the Salvation Army.

They started greeting people outside of Walmart near Quanah Parker Trailway and Northwest 67th.

Lawton Police officer Charles Whittington says his favorite part about volunteering every year is interacting with the community.

"We talk to a lot of kids as they come up here. We want to let them know that we are approachable and we have cars for them to look at. We have McGruff running around out here it's just a great atmosphere for everybody," he said.

The Lawton Police Department volunteers every year to help the Salvation Army during Red Kettle season.
