Organization raises funds to help children

LAWTON, Okla._It's that time of year to go pick out a Christmas tree and the members of the La Sill Optimist Club are helping the community to do just that.

The Lawton chapter of the international non-profit organization works to bring out the best in children in the community through program offerings, like sports and orchestra. The club is selling 157 trees in 4 varieties that where brought here from Tacoma, Washington. Secretary-treasurer of the La Sill Optimist Club Hal Diekman says his favorite part about helping with the tree sale is the children's reactions.

"I am able to help those kids when I am on the tree lot and the kids come in and they light up looking at the trees or I am in the concession stand and they smile when I smile at them cause they are glad to be there that's just a very heartwarming thing. It's all about the kids," said Diekman

Weekdays and Sundays the lot will be open from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Saturdays, the lot it is open from to 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. Tree prices range from $30 to $115. Funds raised will help to support the organizations causes throughout the year.
