Lawton homicide investigation

Update 12:00pm 12/12/2015: The Lawton Police Department is now calling the early morning shooting an accidental homicide. Police say it appears one round was fired from a shotgun. The victim was stationed at Fort Sill in the Army, but is not from Lawton. No names have been released at this time.

Original Story: LAWTON, Okla._Lawton Police Department responded to a call of a man being shot at the apartments near Rogers Lane and 52nd around 2 o'clock this morning.

They were also given a description of a vehicle leaving the scene that may have the shooting victim inside. Officers did find the vehicle south of the apartment complex on 52nd Street and a gunshot victim was found inside the car. Police say the victim died of his injuries at the scene. Witnesses have been brought to the station for interviews. No names are being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
