LAWTON, Okla._A 3-year-old girl is in DHS custody after a Comanche County Sheriff's deputy found her walking alone Sunday morning.
The girl was found around 8:00 a.m. walking along Northwest 2nd Street heading north towards Ferris Avenue. The deputy picked the girl up and gave her a stuffed animal to play with while they searched for her home. The girl was unable to tell the deputy where she lived, so he knocked on doors and drove around searching before taking her back to the station.
The girl's family reported her missing about three hours later and Sheriff Kenny Stradley says he is just happy that the girl was found safe.
"Children are precious, they are sent by God, they are a great gift. Today's world is not a place for a small child to be walking. Could have been run over, could have been abducted, anything could have happened. So, thank you lord, and thank you deputy for doing a good job," Sheriff Stradley said.
An emergency meeting was held with DHS Monday to figure out what will happen with the girl next.
