Council approves city employees cost-of-living increase, pay scale changes

LAWTON, Okla._Tuesday night’s City Council meeting drew quite a crowd of general city employees because the council was considering changes to their pay scale which would result in raises for about two-thirds of those workers. The council approved, by a unanimous vote, installing a single-pay plan for all city workers. The old two-tiered plan was borne out of the general employees union that has since been discontinued.  As a result, workers will receive pay increases that range from a half-percent to four percent.

The council also approved a three percent cost-of-living increase for the general employees. Councilman Doug Wells said the money for the increases will come, in part, from attrition, in which certain personnel vacancies won't be filled. This marks the first pay increase for city employees in four years.
