DUNCAN, Okla._A suspected sexual predator sits in a Kansas jail, wanted for assaulting a woman in Duncan and then stealing her car.
Police were called to the hospital Friday, December 11, morning after a woman told the staff she had been sexually assaulted. She told detectives the man knocked on her door, asked to use the phone and then forced his way through the door and sexually assaulted her. At some point, she and her child were able to get away and she flagged down someone to drive her to the hospital as the attacker took off in her car.
The man ditched the Duncan woman's car in Carnegie before stealing another car and driving it to Kansas. Police spotted the stolen car in Kansas Saturday and arrested their suspect after he gave a false name when they pulled him over. Authorities in both states connected the dots on the series of crimes.
Lieutenant John Byers and another detective from the Duncan Police Department went to interview the suspect in Kansas. Byers says the only description being released of the man at this time is that he is a white male, but he's interested in hearing from anyone else who may have had a similar encounter Friday with a man who was aggressively trying to enter their homes.
"It might have been just a knock on the door and you not going to answer it, but also if anyone else had actual physical contact with him where something bad had happened we would like you to come forward and speak with us," Lt. Byers said.
The man suspected in the crime spree also has warrants for his arrest in Stephens County that are unrelated to these crimes.
Once detectives file charges against the suspect, he will have to be extradited to Oklahoma.
