LAWTON, Okla.(KSWO)_More than two dozen children enjoyed a free meal and a shopping spree ahead of Christmas.

After singing Christmas carols at the Comanche Nation Police Department during the 2nd annual Comanche Nation Shop with a Cop event, with the help of local sponsors, the department was able to shuttle 35 tribal children in-need to dinner where they got to eat whatever they wanted while visiting with police. After dinner, they hopped back on the bus and were taken to Walmart to enjoy a $100 shopping spree.

"It’s just wonderful to have a chance to take such wonderful children out and spend time with them and just being a good friend to them," said Comanche Nation Police Chief Vernon Griffin.

The tribe says without the local sponsors, Thursday’s event would not have been possible. They say the event gets bigger and better each year.
