Man's identity in officer-involved shooting released

ALTUS, Okla. (KSWO) - The identity of the man who pulled out a gun and aimed it at an Altus police officer has been released.

Pete Miranda was booked into the Jackson County jail Saturday on a felony warrant for concealing stolen property, possession of drugs and use of a firearm while committing a felony.

An Altus officer spotted Miranda Saturday afternoon on West Frisco Street, and attempted to serve an arrest warrant. Investigators say Miranda barricaded himself with a handgun in a bedroom of a home before running down the street to south Hickman and taking cover behind a car.

Police say the officer saw Miranda point a gun at the officer, and he fired several shots. Miranda was grazed by bullets in the chest and the officer was not hurt. Miranda's injuries were minor. He was treated and then released from the hospital.

The Altus Police Department requested OSBI investigate the shooting and the district attorney will determine if it was justified.
