LAWTON, OK (KSWO) –The Lawton children’s shelter that had all of their Christmas gifts stolen by an employee has decided to not press charges.

The J. Roy Dunning Children’s Shelter told police Saturday that an employee was caught on camera filling a black trash bag and two kitchen trash bags with toys from under the tree. The employee in question was fired and the shelter believes the stolen toys were valued between $300 and $400.

After hearing about what happened, members of the Lawton Police Union and the community joined forces to replace the stolen toys for the children at the shelter. They did a bit of last-minute shopping and gift wrapping before taking the toys to the shelter Tuesday.

The children’s shelter called police at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to say the employee had paid restitution and they no longer wished to press charges.
