LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -The city of Lawton is remembering a surgeon and community leader who passed a way this week.
A memorial service is scheduled for Dr. Charles Graybill Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
Dr. Graybill graduated from Lawton High School with honors in 1937 and then attended Cameron Junior College and the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in 1943 with a doctorate and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Oklahoma University Hospital.
Dr. Graybill served in the Army as a surgeon during World War II.
Among his many accomplishments, he was past chief of medical staff at Southwestern Hospital and Comanche County Memorial Hospital. His most recent award, the Mayor's 2015 City of Lawton Award of Excellence.
He was a trustee of the McMahon Foundation from 1971-2013 and was the chairman of the McMahon Foundation Board of Trustees for about 30 years of that time.
Dr. Graybill was born June 10, 1919. He was 96 years old when he passed away Monday, Dec. 28.
