LAWTON, OK (KSWO)- For the first time in more than 25 years, Lawton Public School students gathered at Central Middle School for the district's annual Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Celebration.

Today's event themed Celebrating Diversity, was filled with music from all 15 grade schools, who combined their voices for a children's choir, a high school orchestra, and a drum-off between the three city high schools.

"It shows what the theme of Martin Luther King Junior's program was all about, he wanted everyone to come together, and to see that come together and work in harmony is an awesome thing to witness," said MacArthur High School Science teacher Kimberly Jones.

Some of Monday's dignitaries included Mayor Fred Fitch, and guest speaker Lawton Police Chief James Smith.
