LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -Several Lawton firefighters headed out to a salvage yard to get some hands-on training.
In the event of a bad accident, firefighters deploy the Jaws of Life to help free victims from the wreckage. Firefighters had a chance Tuesday to hone in on their life-saving skills while getting an opportunity to train with the powerful hydraulic tool.
"Everything we do out here mimics. We do all the cuts we would make on a car in a car wreck, everything is practice as if it really happened," Captain Mike McDaniel of the Lawton Fire Department explained.
Firefighters say regular training with their cutting tools is important, because the materials vehicles are made of are ever evolving. They say through practice, they're able to determine if their equipment can still get the job done, or if new tools or technique is needed.
