LAWTON, OK (KSWO) -An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper is recovering after a high-speed chase on I-44 ended with a fight between the trooper and the driver he was chasing.

The driver, Pedro Delgado Jr., was charged Friday for assaulting a police officer, driving under the influence, having a controlled dangerous substance and eluding the police.

OHP says the chase started when the trooper tried to stop Delgado on I-44 for having no tail lights on. Speeds reached 100 mph in the chase.

Police say Delgado exited onto Lee Boulevard where he reached the end of the ramp, got out of his car and started running. The trooper ran after him and they got into a fight. The trooper suffered a dislocated finger during the struggle, and Delgado got away.

A Lawton police officer captured and arrested Delgado after a foot chase through a field just west of the interstate.

Delgado’s bond was set at $30,000.
