LAWTON, OK (KSWO) –The Lawton Police Department has started training 13 new cadets.

The Lawton Police Department Training Division welcomed 13 cadets to the LPD Academy where they will spend the next 20 weeks learning everything from hands-on defensive tactics and firearms to driving training. The cadets met with Lieutenant Brad Davis, Sergeant Michael Spencer and Sergeant Richard Wallace, who make up part of the training staff.

Police Chief James Smith welcomed the new cadets, saying “they had chosen a proud career” and recognized the long journey it took them to achieve this position. Chief Smith encouraged them give their full commitment to their training before becoming Lawton Police Officers.

The Lawton Police Department currently has 165 officers, the 13 cadets will increase that number to 178 once they all graduate.
