ALTUS, OK (KSWO) -Altus football coach Jeremy Reed is leaving Jackson County. Reed has accepted the head coaching position at Lake Hamilton, a 6A school in Arkansas. According to Reed, a big factor in his decision to move on, was the current state of the educational system here in Oklahoma.
"With some of the conditions in Oklahoma with state funding, it's a little bit uneasy being a young educator and I have three very small children, 9, 5 and 6 months, and I felt like I had to look at something that could potentially better them in the future," Reed said. "That's no disrespect to Altus because I have 100 percent confidence in Altus. I'm just concerned with the state's condition."
Reed accomplished a lot in two years in Altus. He compiled a 21-4 record and led the Bulldogs to their first state title in 44 years. He says the decision to leave the Bulldog program was not an easy one.
"I love Altus. I love the town. I love the administration, the school. I for sure love the kids," he said. "It was extremely hard to talk to those kids today because I'm not leaving because of football. I'm leaving because of the three small children that I have and my wife and wanting to take care of them first."
